History, conditions & layout

History

Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is laid out on a long island in the St Lawrence; named after Quebec’s late hero, it is famous for the “Wall of Champions” and a stop-start, kerb-punishing style.

Typical conditions

Early summer in Montreal: pleasant but changeable, with a real chance of rain. Track evolution from green to race rubber is a theme; long daylight helps tyre warm-up in cool sessions.

Track layout & design

A semi-permanent “island” circuit: long straights, heavy braking, and tight chicanes/straights. Kerbs are a story—cut too much and the car pays on landing.
